OUR TECHNOLOGY

Direct-machining of hardened steel is our company's state-of-the-art technology..

We can produce mirror surface finish better than 8 nm Ra on steel with hardness above HRC50. Thousands of pieces of hardened steel optical mold inserts have been manufactured with this technology. So far, we are the only commercial company having such capabilities in the world.

Compensation of the shrinkage error of plastic lenses - for injection molding by modifying the profile of the mold inserts. This improves the form accuracy of the plastic lens significantly (typically from 25 µm to 1.5µm)

Diamond tool resharpening and special tool fabrication - This will reduce the running cost and shorten the lead time required to purchase the special tooling.

The advantages of steel inserts (direct-cut) over nickel-plated ones:

  • Shorter fabrication turn-around time (one day versus 2 to 4 weeks)
  • Better quality surface (high scratch resistance, no peeling, no chipping/cracking on sharp edges, less prone to tarnishing, etc)
  • Longer mold life (at least 3 times over nickel-plated ones)
  • Higher molding temperature (over 300°C)
       

Delta Optics Technologies is a company spun off from Singapore Institute of Manufacturing Technology (SIMTech) to better support the optical & molding industries with states-of-the-art technologies to produce mirror surface finish better than 8 nm Ra on steel with hardness above HRC50. We are the only commercial company having such capabilities in the world where thousands of pieces of hardened steel optical mold inserts have been manufactured with this technology.
